In sub-Saharan Africa alone, 98 million children between the ages of six and eighteen are not attending school . These are not just statistics. According to UNESCO’s 2025 Spotlight report, only 10.8% of children in Africa achieve minimum proficiency in reading and mathematics by the end of primary school .
